A beautifully bold oil painting portrait of a women dressed in red. The painting depicts a seated women dressed in a bold red dress and wearing a golden plaited bun with black velvet bow in her hair. I love the strength of this portrait which has a juxtaposition between the fine painted detail of the woman's face and hair with the bold, almost monochrome palette of the red dress which is set against a background which is a very deep brown green with expressive brushstrokes. In the painting the woman looks towards the right side of the canvas with a certain dignity and strength.
